This Thompson Tabby House dates from mid 1800s. It is typical tabby construction, a method that is thought to have originated in Africa.
This is called the Thompson Tabby house but is also known as the Munsilna Mugundo house. It has two names because two theories exist on who built this structure. It was originally thought to have been willed to Munsilna Mugundo and her daughter Fatima by Zephaniah Kingsley in 1831. Everyone believed for years that this was Ms. Mugundo’s home. However, the structure not appear on maps of the area until 1854. The discussion is that the construction of the house was begun under the order of Mr. Charles Thompson, who purchased Fort George Island in 1854, for his daughter and her husband. It is thought that construction halted upon Mr. Thompson's death in 1855. Thus, it was never occupied.
