Research

It is your responsibility to thoroughly research the park and surrounding area. A helpful website is the ‘Public Use Statistics Office’ website. Here you will find information on the visitation of every National Park by year. You will also find a complete listing of the acreage of each park. This is very helpful if you are not sure if the area you have chosen is popular and busy most of the time or a more remote setting with light visitation. This website will also link you to a calculator that will predict your average fuel cost driving from your home city to your chosen park. You enter the starting city, destination city, vehicle make, year and model. The calculator will factor the average cost of gas through the parts of the country you will be driving through and give you a total one way and round trip cost for your fuel.
