New Year’s Day Parade, Dallas Texas

On January 1st, 2009 the Comerica Bank New Year’s Day Parade steps out at the Dallas Arts District at 230PM.  This downtown Dallas Texas parade begins at Ross Avenue in front of the Dallas Museum of Art and ends at Houston Street next to the American Airlines Center.  More than 25 floats, 15 marching bands, equestrians and VIP’s will be on hand as Dallas and visiting fans for the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic line the parade route.  The Ole Miss Rebel Band and the Texas Tech Raiders Band will entertain parade goers as well as the world reknown Kilgore Rangerattes.  

New Year’s Eve at Victory Park, Dallas Texas

New Year’s Eve at Victory Park with Dallas Stars hockey is the place to be December 31st, 2008.  Ring in the new year with live music, food, drinks and a spectacular fireworks show.  Admission to the plaza is free.  Festivities for this 2nd annual New Year’s Eve at Victory Park kick off at 6PM in the plaza with the Dallas Stars pre-game show.  The puck drops at 730PM for the game against the Devils inside the American Airlines Center.  For those not attending the game concerts inside the House of Blues and on the Bud Light Stage at the AT&T Plaza are free and continue until countdown for the ringing in of the New Year and the fireworks show at midnight.  Dart will provide light rail transportation to and from Victory Station until 1AM January 1st, 2009.  BIGDNYE.COM  

The Trains at North Park, Dallas Texas

The Trains at North Park Center in Dallas Texas is an annual Christmas fundraiser for the Ronald Mac Donald House.  This year’s spectacular exhibit features more than 40 trains pulling 400 cars.  In the passenger cars people enjoy the sights of downtown Dallas, Mount Rushmore, the city of San Francisco as well as a journey through the Great Southwest featuring the Painted Desert as it appeared in the 1800’s complete with a frontier train station and a hobo settlement.  The Trains at North Park exhibit is on the 2nd floor of the North Park Center near Neiman Marcus.  The toy trains cruise on 2,500 feet of track Monday-Saturday from 10AM-9PM and Sundays from 12N-6PM.  Admission is $5 per adult and $3 per child and seniors 65 years of age and older.  Discount coupons are available at Tom Thumb Supermarkets.  The Trains at North Park run through January 4th, 2009.  214-361-6345

ICE! at the Gaylord Texan Resort, Grapevine Texas

Ice

 ICE! and a Lone Star Christmas are being celebrated at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine Texas through January 3rd, 2009.  A 50 foot rotating tree is the centerpiece as 1.2 million Christmas lights twinkle and dazzle you in the decorated atriums.  15,000 Christmas ornaments are displayed as well as electric trains and a life size gingerbread house.  Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be on hand with their team of live reindeer.  Strolling entertainers will delight you as you make your way to the featured exhibit ICE!.  Occupying 14,000 sq ft more than 2 million lbs of ice have been hand carved into delightful sculptures such as Old Man Winter, a wondrous Nativity scene, an ice forest, ice slides and a life size Santa Claus lap for a chilly photo op.  ICE is kept at a steady 9 degrees so dress warmly for your tour.  Ticket prices range from $20-$23 for adults, $18-$20 for seniors age 55 and up and military, $10-$12 for children 4-12 years of age with children under the age of 3 years admitted free.  ICE is open Friday and Saturday from 10AM-10PM.  Sunday through Thursday ICE is open from 10AM-9PM.  Discount coupons of $3 off admission Sunday thru Friday on selected Coca Cola products.  gaylordhotels.com/gaylord-texan
