New Year’s Day Parade, Dallas Texas

On January 1st, 2009 the Comerica Bank New Year’s Day Parade steps out at the Dallas Arts District at 230PM.  This downtown Dallas Texas parade begins at Ross Avenue in front of the Dallas Museum of Art and ends at Houston Street next to the American Airlines Center.  More than 25 floats, 15 marching bands, equestrians and VIP’s will be on hand as Dallas and visiting fans for the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic line the parade route.  The Ole Miss Rebel Band and the Texas Tech Raiders Band will entertain parade goers as well as the world reknown Kilgore Rangerattes.  

Christmas in Texas State Parks, Rusk and Palestine

As of September 01, 2007 operational control of Rusk and Palestine State Parks along with the Texas State Railroad was transferred to American Heritage Railways.  Camping is still available at both the Rusk and Palestine parks.  The Rusk Park offers shaded sites, some are full hook-ups, under the big trees with front row views of the historic steam and diesel trains chugging in and out of the depot  Tent camping only is available at the Palestine Park.  On selected dates beginning November 28th thru December 27th The Polar Express will depart Palestine Depot on a magical trip to the North Pole.  Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas as they read along with the story and excitedly make their way to a visit with Santa.  The sounds of Christmas carols across the clear night air with hot chocolate to warm you up will stay in your memories long after the journey ends.  Each child will receive a special gift.  Ticket prices range from $28-$49.95  for adults and $18-$24.95 for children ages 2-11.  polarexpressride.com  1-888-987-2461  The Palestine Park is located in Anderson County in the Pineywoods Region.

Hurricane Ike Targets Texas, Texas State Park Closures Update

Texas Parks and Wildlife is assessing hurricane-damaged parks and aiding affected employees.  Almost a month after Hurricane Ike hit the Texas Gulf Coast on September 13th, 2008 Sea Rim State Park and Galveston Island State Park which were destroyed are in the process of damage assessment and decisions being considered regarding their future.  Brazos Bend State Park, located southwest of Houston reopened on October 10th, 2008.  Lake Livingston, Martin Dies Jr and Village Creek are expected to reopen by November or sooner.  San Jacinto Battleground and the Battleship Texas should reopen within the next two weeks.  Mission Tejas State Park that suffered fire damage in the headquarters building should open by November 01, 2008.
