Prairie Lights, Grand Prairie Texas

More than 4 million lights will dazzle you this Christmas Season on a 2 mile drive through Lynn Creek Park near Dallas, Texas.  A City of Grand Prairie event, this light extravaganza begins on Thanksgiving night 2009 and lasts through December 31st, 2009.  The entrance fee is $15 per car Monday through Thursday and $20 per car on Friday and Saturday and includes up to 8 people per vehicle.  Limos, shuttle vans and commercial busses can expect to pay higher entrance fees.  Mid-way through your drive you will come upon the Holiday Village.  You may stop here for the Holiday Magic Light Show and a Walk Through the Forest of Lights.  The Holiday Magic Light Show is a 10 minute show in a theatre setting.  Admission to the Holiday Magic Light Show or the Walk Through Forest  is $3 per adult and $2 per child.  A combination ticket for both attractions is $5 per adult and $3 per child.  Allow 45 minutes for the drive through the park during the week with light traffic.  Allow 1 1/2 hours if you include a stop at the Holiday Village.  Allow a full extra hour if you are touring the park on the weekends.  The Prairie Lights are on display at Lynn Creek Park, 5700 Lake Ridge Parkway, Grand Prairie Texas.  75052  Prairie Lights.org

The Trains at North Park, Dallas Texas

The Trains at North Park Center in Dallas Texas is an annual Christmas fundraiser for the Ronald Mac Donald House.  This year’s spectacular exhibit features more than 40 trains pulling 400 cars.  In the passenger cars people enjoy the sights of downtown Dallas, Mount Rushmore, the city of San Francisco as well as a journey through the Great Southwest featuring the Painted Desert as it appeared in the 1800’s complete with a frontier train station and a hobo settlement.  The Trains at North Park exhibit is on the 2nd floor of the North Park Center near Neiman Marcus.  The toy trains cruise on 2,500 feet of track Monday-Saturday from 10AM-9PM and Sundays from 12N-6PM.  Admission is $5 per adult and $3 per child and seniors 65 years of age and older.  Discount coupons are available at Tom Thumb Supermarkets.  The Trains at North Park run through January 4th, 2009.  214-361-6345

Holiday at the Arboretum, Dallas Texas

The Dallas Arboretum rolls out the holiday season with the celebration Holiday At The Arboretum.  Beginning on Friday November 28th through Wednesday December 31st the grounds will showcase winter blooms as children scurry through the gardens on scavenger hunts.  A special exhibit of more than 200 Nutcrackers from a private collection will be on display at the historic DeGolyer Estate on the grounds.  Tours will be conducted daily from 10AM until 4PM.  On the weekends activities include horse drawn carriage rides ($5 per person), photos with Santa ($15 each) as well as live music and holiday arts and crafts.  Wonderful Wednesday’s (December 3rd, 10th and 17th) feature workshops and contests.  Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will stop in every day and Mrs. Claus will hold story time.  The Candy Cane Cottage and Peppermint Patch are wonderful opportunities for family photos.  Admission to Holiday at the Arboretum is $8 per adult,  $7 seniors age 65 and over, $5 children ages 3-12 years with 2 years and under admitted free of charge.  Parking is $5.  Gates open at 9AM each day but Christmas Day and New Years Day and close at 5PM.  Call 214-515-6500 to reserve special events such as the Holiday Tea for adults.  dallasarboretum.org
