Anheuser-Busch dropping Texas Parks & Wildlife Sponserships

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Anheuser-Busch, bought last year by a European company is dropping it’s Texas Parks & Wildlife sponsorships including the popular Share Lunker program.  Begun in 1986 as the Lone Star Lunkers the program accepts entries from anglers catching largemouth bass weighing 13 lbs or more.  The bass are either donated or loaned to Texas Parks & Wildlife for use in a spawning program.  Biologists are hoping for genetically superior large mouth bass.  The goal is for big bass fishing in the state of Texas.  Maybe a 20 pounder is in the future?  In the meantime potential new sponsors may contact Texas Parks & Wildlife regarding the opportunities and exposure for the program which will most probably return to it’s roots of the Lone Star Lunkers.

Visit our Tyler State Park Photo Gallery
Approximately 100 miles East of Dallas Texas in Smith County you will find the popular Tyler State Park.  The cities of Canton, Marshall, Longview and of course Tyler itself are close by carrying over a very urban feel to the park.  When we visited in March 2007 parents of camping families were actually driving their kids back and forth to school at the nearby cities.  At 985 acres this is a fairly small park with a pretty but also small (64 acre) spring fed lake.
