Heart of Texas Museum

A surprise discovery awaits you in Brady, Texas at the Heart of Texas Historical Museum located at 117 N High St. in downtown Brady, Texas.  The museum is housed in the old McCulloch County jailhouse, a 3 story structure circa 1910, complete with jail cells on the upper floors as well as a hanging noose with a real trap door.  On the first floor you will find portraits of Brady’s namesake, Peter Brady and that of Ben McCulloch of McCulloch County fame.  One room is dedicated to kitchen antiquities.  Also displayed on the first floor are dresses worn by McCulloch County residents.  A black wedding dress dated 1880, featuring a 20 inch waist, is notable in that it signifies that in Victorian times widows, no matter the age, were married in black.Part of the museum contains the restored vintage control tower from Curtis Field, a pilot training facility during World War II.  The restored guard shacks from both the POW camps and Curtis Field are also on display.
