Most people when asked about National Parks in the state of Texas correctly name Big Bend National Park in far West Texas. The Chisos Mountains, the Chihuahuan Desert and the Rio Grande River leave indelible imprints on your memory whether you have visited in person or browsed one of the many photo journals of this magnificent landscape. But did you know that there is another, though not as well known National Park in the state of Texas, the Guadalupe Mountains National Park near El Paso Texas. There are also – two National Historic Sites, Fort Davis and Palo Alto Battlefield - two National Historical Parks, Lyndon B. Johnson and San Antonio Missions - two National Recreation Areas, Amistad and Lake Meredith - a National Seashore, Padre Island - a National Preserve, Big Thicket - a National Monument, Alibates Flint Quarries - a Wild and Scenic River, Rio Grande, and – a National Memorial, Chamizal. The total National Park Service Areas in the state of Texas is thirteen!
