Galveston Island State Park Reopens

Galveston Island State Park is reopening just in time for Spring Breakers on the Texas gulf coast.  On March 21st, 2009 the bay side of Galveston Island State Park reopens for day users.  The beach side remains closed due to the extensive damage inflicted by Hurricane Ike.  For the past 6 months hundreds of volunteers have worked alongside staff to clean up the storm damage and remove debris.  For now there will be no overnight camping but there are still many activities to enjoy including bird watching, hiking, fishing, crabbing and paddling.  Call Galveston Island State Park at 409-787-1222 for more information.
